What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a specialised massage technique that stimulates lymph nodes and moves lymphatic fluid in a specific direction to reduce oedema, swelling and enhance the clearance of toxins. The lymph fluid within your body must flow in a particular direction to a number of specific drainage areas (called lymphotomes). If one or several of your lymphotomes are blocked (for example post mastectomy), Aaryan can direct fluid to another lymphotome where the unaffected lymph nodes are located.
Why must Lymphatic Drainage Massage be a light pressure?
This type of massage MUST be very light and slow as too much pressure can hamper the flow of lymph or cause the delicate lymph vessels to spasm. Aaryan does not use oil for this type of massage due to its slipperiness, as it’s essential that she maintains the right pressure, speed and control. She may use fine talc powder if necessary. Sometimes a firmer pressure is needed to soften scar tissue or harder fibrotic areas that form a band.
